About coronary angioplasty & stenting

Angioplasty (PTCA) threads a thin catheter from the wrist or groin to the blocked artery, inflates a balloon and places a drug-eluting stent to keep it open.

It is usually preceded by a coronary angiogram to map the blockages. Cost depends mainly on the number and type of stents required.

Who is it for?

Patients with one or two significant blockages, or after a heart attack.

Recovery

Most patients walk the same day and resume normal routines within a week.
